Russian Punk-Events diese Woche in London

Russian punk emerged in the late 1970s within the Soviet underground, reaching its creative zenith during the 1980s Siberian punk movement led by groups such as Grazhdanskaya Oborona. Characterized by aggressive, high-tempo 4/4 rhythms and heavily distorted electric guitars, the genre frequently incorporates lo-fi production values that emphasize its raw, anti-establishment ethos. Its sonic palette blends the high-impact energy of Western hardcore punk with the lyrical depth and existential melancholy rooted in traditional Russian bard music. This fusion creates a unique atmosphere that oscillates between frantic nihilism and socio-political protest, serving as a visceral alternative to both state-sanctioned Soviet pop and mainstream Western rock influences.
