Scottish Hush-Events in London

Originating from the centuries-old tradition of Scottish lullabies, Scottish Hush is an intimate subgenre of folk music designed specifically to soothe and comfort. This genre typically features delicate solo vocals, often accompanied by acoustic instruments like the clarsach, gentle guitar fingerpicking, or soft piano. Its rhythm is characterized by slow, swaying tempos, frequently in triple meter, that mimic the rhythmic rocking of a cradle to create a serene and maternal mood. While deeply rooted in traditional Gaelic and Scots Gaelic melodies, Scottish Hush serves as a bridge between ancestral oral traditions and contemporary acoustic balladry, emphasizing lyrical tenderness and a quiet, domestic atmosphere within the broader Celtic folk landscape.
