Scottish Indie Rock-Events dieses Wochenende in London

Scottish indie rock emerged from the late 1970s post-punk era, solidified by Glasgow’s influential Postcard Records and the legendary C86 movement. Characterized by a distinctive blend of jangling guitars, driving basslines, and often prominent regional accents, the genre balances melodic pop sensibilities with a raw, DIY aesthetic. Rhythmically, it typically utilizes steady mid-to-fast tempos, while the mood frequently oscillates between introspective melancholy and soaring, anthemic energy. Semantically, it functions as a regional offshoot of alternative rock, deeply interconnected with indie pop and shoegaze, yet distinguished by its unique cultural identity, gritty poetic lyricism, and its hallmark of unwavering emotional sincerity.
