Singeli-Events in London

Singeli originated in the makeshift studios of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, evolving from traditional Zaramo wedding music like Mchiriku into a frenetic electronic powerhouse. Characterized by blistering tempos often exceeding 200 BPM, the genre utilizes lo-fi Casio keyboard melodies and hyper-fast, polyrhythmic percussion programmed on rudimentary software. Its mood is relentlessly high-energy and chaotic, serving as a raw soundtrack to urban street life while maintaining a deep semantic connection to Bongo Flava and traditional coastal sounds. This distinct Tanzanian style bridges the gap between heritage folk rhythms and modern digital synthesis, creating a unique, high-velocity dance culture that is both celebratory and socially grounded.
