Skiffle-Events in London

Skiffle emerged in the United Kingdom during the 1950s, drawing heavily from American jazz, blues, and folk traditions while emphasizing a homemade, DIY aesthetic. Typically characterized by its use of improvised instruments such as washboards and tea-chest basses alongside acoustic guitars and banjos, the genre maintains a driving, upbeat tempo often rooted in simple rhythmic structures. Its spirited and informal mood provided a crucial bridge between traditional jazz and the subsequent British rock and roll explosion, making it accessible to amateur musicians. This high-energy style prioritized rhythmic propulsion and raw, acoustic textures over polished studio production, significantly influencing the foundations of modern pop music across the British Isles.
