Bubblegum Bass-Events in Los Angeles

Emerging in the early 2010s primarily through the London-based PC Music collective and pioneering artists like Sophie, bubblegum bass is an avant-garde subgenre of electronic pop. It utilizes hyper-processed FM synthesizers, metallic sound design, and pitched-up, saccharine vocals to create a high-gloss, synthetic, and distinctly plastic aesthetic. The rhythm is typically characterized by syncopated, high-energy beats often ranging from 120 to 160 BPM, blending elements of J-pop, Eurodance, and UK hardcore. This mood is deliberately artificial, euphoric, and satirical, serving as a direct precursor to the hyperpop movement while subverting traditional pop tropes through extreme sonic textures, high-fidelity production, and post-modern surrealism.
