Double Drumming-Events in Los Angeles

Double drumming is a specialized percussive arrangement featuring two drummers performing simultaneously, a technique popularized by jazz and rock ensembles such as The Allman Brothers Band and the Grateful Dead. This configuration typically utilizes two full drum kits, allowing for complex polyrhythmic layering and a significantly denser, more powerful rhythmic foundation than a single percussionist can provide. The style is characterized by interlocking grooves and improvisational dialogue between the players, often resulting in an intense, immersive, and high-energy atmosphere. Semantically related to the jam band and progressive rock traditions, double drumming expands the sonic possibilities of the rhythm section by emphasizing textures and syncopated interplay over traditional backbeats.
