Duranguense-Events in Los Angeles

Duranguense, also known as pasito duranguense, originated in the late 1990s within the Mexican-American community of Chicago, evolving from traditional banda and norteño styles. The genre is characterized by its energetic, fast-paced 2/4 rhythm and a distinct instrumentation that prominently features synthesizers to emulate brass sections, alongside heavy snare drumming and clarinets. This festive and highly danceable music is inextricably linked to its unique dance style, involving quick side-to-side steps and stomps. While it maintains deep roots in the rural sounds of Durango, Mexico, its reliance on electronic keyboards and upbeat tempos gives it a modern, urban edge that distinguishes it from more traditional regional Mexican genres.
