Ethio Jazz-Events dieses Wochenende in Los Angeles

Ethio-jazz emerged in the 1960s as a unique fusion of traditional Ethiopian pentatonic scales with the structures of American jazz and funk, spearheaded by the multi-instrumentalist Mulatu Astatke. The genre typically features brass instrumentation, vibraphone, and electric organ, often supported by driving basslines and complex polyrhythms that create a hypnotic, noir-like atmosphere. Its tempo is generally moderate, maintaining a mood that balances soulful melancholy with a sophisticated, groovy energy suitable for both listening and movement. Historically connected to the "Swinging Addis" era, ethio-jazz serves as a critical bridge between East African melodic traditions and Western improvisational forms, influencing modern world fusion and rare groove collectors globally.
