Norteño-Events in Los Angeles

Norteño is a popular genre of Mexican music originating from northern Mexico, particularly in the states bordering the United States, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It developed from the fusion of local Mexican folk traditions with the polka and waltz brought by German, Czech, and Polish immigrants. Key instrumentation typically includes the accordion, bajo sexto (a 12-string bass guitar), bass guitar, and drums, sometimes augmented by saxophone. Characterized by its storytelling lyrics, often about daily life, love, or social issues, norteño music features a danceable rhythm, frequently incorporating polka, cumbia, and ranchera styles, creating a mood that ranges from festive and celebratory to melancholic.
