Baroque Ensemble-Events diese Woche in Madrid

Baroque ensemble music originated in Europe during the 17th century, serving as a pivotal transition between the Renaissance and Classical eras. These groups typically utilize a basso continuo section, featuring harpsichord or organ alongside string instruments like the violin and cello, often augmented by period woodwinds and brass. The genre is characterized by motoric rhythms, intricate counterpoint, and a high degree of melodic ornamentation, creating moods that range from regal and grand to deeply somber. This style established the foundational harmonic structures of Western art music, emphasizing the dramatic contrast between soloists and the full group, which paved the way for the modern orchestral tradition.
