Early Reggae-Events in Madrid

Emerging in Jamaica around 1968, early reggae serves as the transitional link between the slower rocksteady era and the spiritually focused roots movement of the 1970s. Characterized by a brisk tempo and a percussive "bubble" organ style, the genre features a prominent, melodic bassline and a staccato rhythm guitar technique known as the "skank" on the off-beat. While the instrumentation typically includes drums, electric bass, and brass sections, the mood remains infectious and dance-oriented, often associated with the 1960s UK skinhead subculture. This foundational style prioritized rhythmic complexity and grooves that encouraged movement, setting the technical stage for modern reggae while maintaining the soulful vocal arrangements of its predecessor genres.
