Opm-Events diesen Monat in Madrid

Original Pilipino Music, or OPM, originated in the Philippines during the late 1970s as a localized response to Western pop, following the earlier Manila Sound era. The genre employs a diverse instrumentation including acoustic guitars, pianos, and lush orchestral strings, frequently blending Western pop-rock structures with traditional melodic sensibilities like Kundiman. Rhythms often alternate between slow-tempo, sentimental ballads and mid-tempo contemporary pop, maintaining a mood that is predominantly romantic, nostalgic, or patriotic. As a semantic bridge between Western adult contemporary and indigenous Filipino styles, OPM represents a highly commercialized yet culturally distinct pillar of the Southeast Asian music landscape, encompassing both independent and major label productions.
