Rumba-Events diese Woche in Madrid

Originating in the late 19th-century urban solar households of Havana and Matanzas, Rumba is a foundational Afro-Cuban secular music and dance complex. This genre relies on a complex polyrhythmic structure driven by the five-stroke clave, utilizing an acoustic ensemble of tumbadoras, claves, and palitos to support intricate call-and-response vocal narratives. It encompasses three primary distinct styles—the slow Yambú, the mid-tempo Guaguancó, and the fast, acrobatic Columbia—each characterized by a festive yet deeply spiritual communal energy. While strictly distinct from its commercial ballroom namesake, Rumba serves as a primary rhythmic ancestor to modern Salsa and Afro-Cuban Jazz, emphasizing raw percussive interplay and spontaneous melodic improvisation.
