Salsa Romantica-Events in Madrid

Salsa romantica emerged in the late 1970s and 1980s as a melodic, sentimental evolution of the more aggressive salsa dura, primarily originating in New York and Puerto Rico. It maintains traditional Caribbean instrumentation, including piano, congas, and brass sections, while often incorporating lush synthesizers and polished production techniques. Characterized by moderate tempos and a strong emphasis on the clave rhythm, the genre shifts the lyrical focus from social themes to romantic narratives and emotional vulnerability. This style serves as a bridge between high-energy tropical dance music and the heartfelt sensibilities of the Latin ballad or bolero, resulting in a commercially accessible and polished sound.
