Minimal Wave-Events in Miami

Minimal wave emerged during the late 1970s and early 1980s as a DIY electronic subculture, often involving home-recorded tracks from Europe and North America. The genre is characterized by its reliance on vintage analog synthesizers, primitive drum machines, and a distinctive lo-fi production quality that emphasizes a cold, detached, and often melancholic atmosphere. Its skeletal arrangements and mechanical rhythms differentiate it from mainstream synth-pop, aligning more closely with the stark aesthetics of post-punk and coldwave movements. Primarily an underground phenomenon, it prioritizes raw electronic textures over polished commercial sounds, creating a stark, minimalist soundscape that feels both futuristic and nostalgically analog.
