Salsa Cubana-Events in Miami

Salsa Cubana, often identified as Casino, emerged in mid-20th century Cuba as a sophisticated evolution of Son Cubano infused with Afro-Cuban jazz and North American big-band influences. The genre is structurally defined by a dense rhythmic foundation featuring congas, timbales, bongos, and the essential clave pattern, complemented by vibrant brass sections and syncopated piano montunos. Its tempo is typically upbeat and driving, fostering a high-energy, celebratory mood that is intrinsically linked to the circular patterns of the Casino dance style. While it shares foundational elements with New York-style salsa, Salsa Cubana maintains a distinct rhythmic complexity and melodic fluidity, serving as a critical bridge between traditional Cuban son and contemporary Timba.
