Lute-Events in Mailand

Lute music refers to the vast solo and ensemble repertoire composed for the lute, a plucked string instrument that reached its cultural zenith during the European Renaissance and Baroque eras. Originating from the Middle Eastern oud, this genre became the preeminent domestic and courtly art form, distinguished by its delicate, resonant timbre and intricate polyphonic capabilities. The music spans a wide range of rhythmic structures, from somber, slow-tempo pavanes to highly syncopated and spirited galliards. Its overall mood is profoundly intimate and intellectual, serving as a critical semantic bridge between ancient secular folk traditions and the formal, rigorous compositional structures of early Western classical music.
