Hyperpop-Events in New York City

Hyperpop is a maximalist and self-aware subgenre of pop music that emerged in the early 2010s, largely pioneered by the PC Music collective and artists like SOPHIE. It is characterized by its heavily processed, high-pitched vocals, aggressive synthesizers, and erratic percussion that blurs the lines between bubblegum pop, EDM, and glitch. This movement, frequently associated with internet culture and the LGBTQ+ community, utilizes saturation and fragmentation to redefine pop sensibility through extreme dynamic shifts and a surrealist aesthetic. By blending mainstream pop tropes with avant-garde electronic experimentation, hyperpop creates an ironic yet sincere atmosphere that challenges conventional boundaries of commercial music and digital-age performance art.
