Kayokyoku-Events heute Abend in New York City

Kayōkyoku is a foundational Japanese pop music genre that emerged in the early 20th century and dominated the Shōwa era. It represents a stylistic synthesis of traditional Japanese scales with Western musical elements, typically featuring orchestral arrangements, pianos, and later, electronic instrumentation. The music is characterized by its melodic sentimentality and high-quality vocal performances, often exploring themes of romance and nostalgia through moderate tempos. While it evolved from earlier Ryūkōka and shares a kinship with Enka, Kayōkyoku ultimately served as the commercial predecessor to modern J-Pop by integrating international influences like jazz, rock, and disco into the domestic mainstream.
