Deathrock-Events dieses Wochenende in Paris

Deathrock emerged in the late 1970s from the Los Angeles punk scene as a darker, atmospheric offshoot that prioritized macabre themes and theatrical performances. Characterized by driving basslines, jagged guitars drenched in reverb, and tribal drumming, the genre maintains a fast to mid-tempo pace that bridges the gap between raw punk energy and gothic introspection. It is semantically positioned as the American counterpart to British gothic rock, though it retains a grittier, horror-punk aesthetic that sets it apart from melodic post-punk styles. This genre often features dramatic, sometimes campy vocals exploring themes of death and isolation, resulting in a moody yet high-energy sonic experience.
