Moroccan Traditional-Events in Paris

Moroccan traditional music is a diverse cultural tapestry emerging from the convergence of indigenous Amazigh, Arab-Andalusian, and Saharan influences over several centuries. Typical instrumentation includes stringed instruments like the oud and lotar, alongside percussion such as the bendir and darbouka, which drive complex polyrhythmic structures often featuring compound meters like 6/8. The genre ranges from the meditative, spiritual atmospheres of Gnawa and Sufi devotional songs to the high-energy, celebratory moods found in communal folk dances like the Ahidus. Functionally serving as a cornerstone for social rituals and storytelling, it maintains a deep semantic connection to broader Maghrebi folk traditions while preserving unique regional characteristics across the Atlas Mountains and urban centers.
