Dutch Folk-Events dieses Wochenende in Rotterdam

Dutch folk music, or Nederlandse volksmuziek, originates from traditional rural dances, maritime shanties, and medieval ballads rooted in the Low Countries. The genre typically features instrumentation such as the accordion, fiddle, guitar, and the traditional hurdy-gurdy, creating a sound that balances acoustic warmth with rhythmic precision. Often characterized by steady 2/4 or 3/4 time signatures like the waltz and polka, the music conveys a mood ranging from communal joy to poignant melancholy. While it maintains a distinct cultural identity through its linguistic ties, it shares deep semantic roots with Flemish and North German folk traditions, ultimately laying the foundation for the more modern and commercialized Levenslied genre which evolved in the twentieth century.
