Instrumental Funk-Events dieses Wochenende in Rotterdam

Originating in the late 1960s as a rhythmic evolution of soul and jazz-fusion, instrumental funk emphasizes the "one" with highly syncopated grooves and a prominent backbeat. The genre typically features a driving rhythm section of electric bass and drums, complemented by percussive "wah-wah" guitars, punchy brass sections, and vintage keyboards like the Clavinet or Hammond B3. Its infectious, high-energy mood is characterized by technical precision and a danceable flow, stripping away vocals to focus on the hypnotic interplay of melodic and rhythmic motifs. This foundational style bridged the gap between raw James Brown-era soul and the later emergence of hip-hop and electronic breakbeat music.
