Khaleeji-Events in Rotterdam

Khaleeji music is a distinct traditional and contemporary genre originating from the Eastern Arabian Peninsula, particularly the Persian Gulf states. It is characterized by complex, syncopated polyrhythms—often featuring the mirwas drum and rhythmic hand-clapping known as tasfeeq—which drive a uniquely energetic and danceable pulse. While traditionally centered around the oud and soulful vocal performances, modern iterations frequently incorporate synthesizers and orchestral strings, blending indigenous Bedouin heritage with modern pop sensibilities. Emotionally, the genre oscillates between celebratory exuberance and deep poetic longing, serving as a primary cultural bridge between traditional tribal music and the broader, globalized Arab pop industry.
