Sevillanas-Events in Rotterdam

Sevillanas is a traditional folk music and dance style originating from the Seville region of Andalusia, Spain, evolving from the older Castilian seguidillas. Typically performed in a precise four-part structure, it features a lively 3/4 time signature characterized by rhythmic guitar strumming, clacking castanets, and synchronized handclapping known as palmas. While closely associated with flamenco due to shared stylistic elements, sevillanas remains a distinct social genre primarily celebrated during festive gatherings like the Feria de Abril. The mood is inherently festive and communal, blending melodic vocal storytelling with structured choreography that transitions from rhythmic folk patterns into a vibrant display of regional cultural identity and acoustic precision.
