Bluegrass-Events dieses Wochenende in San Antonio

Emerging in the 1940s within the Appalachian region, bluegrass is a subgenre of American roots music pioneered by Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys. It is characterized by exclusively acoustic instrumentation, typically featuring the five-string banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, and upright bass, executed with virtuosic speed and complex "drive" rhythms. Unlike mainstream country, it emphasizes sophisticated improvisation and the "high lonesome sound" of its vocal harmonies, blending elements of old-time music, jazz, and blues. This genre maintains a strong semantic connection to folk while remaining technically demanding, serving as a foundational pillar of traditional Americana that prioritizes instrumental interplay and rhythmic precision.
