Memphis Rap-Events in San Antonio

Memphis rap emerged from the underground scene of Memphis, Tennessee, during the late 1980s and early 1990s, characterized by its raw, DIY production and lo-fi aesthetic. Primarily utilizing the Roland TR-808 drum machine, the genre features heavy basslines, repetitive, hypnotic samples, and eerie synth melodies that create a dark and often menacing atmosphere. Artists frequently employ distinctive triple-time flows and high-energy delivery, bridging the gap between hardcore hip hop and the later emergence of trap and phonk. Its unique rhythmic syncopation and aggressive yet atmospheric mood have made it a seminal influence on modern Southern hip hop and digital-age subgenres.
