Jam Band-Events diese Woche in San Francisco

The jam band genre emerged in the late 1960s, heavily influenced by the psychedelic rock of the Grateful Dead and later refined by acts like Phish. Characterized by a traditional rock instrumentation of guitars, keyboards, and drums, the genre prioritizes extended live improvisations that blend elements of jazz fusion, bluegrass, folk, and blues. Rhythmically, these performances are fluid and dynamic, often shifting between structured song sections and open-ended, exploratory passages that foster a communal, celebratory mood. While rooted in rock, the genre's defining feature is its deviation from studio-recorded brevity in favor of unique, long-form instrumental interplay that varies significantly across every performance.
