Roots Reggae-Events diesen Monat in San Francisco

Emerging from Jamaica in the late 1960s, roots reggae is a spiritually driven subgenre that evolved from rocksteady and ska, emphasizing Rastafarian themes and social justice. The instrumentation typically features a prominent, melodic electric bassline paired with the 'one drop' drumming style, where the snare and kick drum accent the third beat of a 4/4 measure. Its moderate tempo and syncopated guitar 'skank' create a hypnotic, relaxed mood that distinguishes it from the faster rhythms of its predecessors and the digital production of dancehall. As a foundational pillar of modern music, it maintains a close semantic link to dub, which utilizes its instrumental tracks for experimental, echo-laden reinterpretations.
