Diva House-Events in Tallinn

Diva house emerged in the late 1980s as a subgenre of house music, blending soulful gospel influences with the rhythmic energy of the Chicago club scene. The genre is characterized by powerful, virtuosic female vocals—often featuring high-energy belts and melismatic runs—layered over a steady 4/4 beat typically ranging between 120 and 128 BPM. Instrumentation frequently utilizes iconic digital piano stabs, resonant organ patches, and driving Roland TR-909 percussion, creating a celebratory and euphoric mood that bridges underground dance culture with mainstream pop sensibilities. Historically linked to the handbag house movement, it remains a foundational pillar of LGBTQ+ club culture and serves as a primary precursor to modern vocal house and commercial dance music.
