Wind Ensemble-Events diese Woche in Tallinn

Wind ensemble, also known as a concert band or symphonic wind band, originated from 18th-century military traditions and the 19th-century wind band movement, eventually formalizing into a serious concert medium during the mid-20th century. The instrumentation is strictly comprised of woodwinds, brass, and percussion, often utilizing a one-player-per-part approach to emphasize tonal clarity and individual virtuosity compared to larger orchestras. Rhythmic structures range from traditional march tempos to complex, asymmetrical patterns found in modern avant-garde compositions, while the mood oscillates between triumphant, regal fanfares and delicate, impressionistic textures. It maintains a close semantic relationship with orchestral music but remains distinct through its exclusion of a string section.
