Expressionism-Events in Timișoara

Expressionism in music is an early 20th-century artistic movement, primarily emerging in Germany and Austria, characterized by intense emotional expression, often exploring the darker aspects of the human psyche. It is closely associated with the Second Viennese School, notably Arnold Schoenberg, Alban Berg, and Anton Webern. Musically, it often employs atonality, dissonance, and fragmented melodies, eschewing traditional tonality and conventional beauty to convey psychological states. Instrumentation typically involves orchestral or chamber ensembles, utilized in non-traditional ways to create unsettling textures, with rhythms and tempos varying dramatically to serve the dramatic and emotional intent, rather than a consistent groove. It represents a radical departure from Romanticism, emphasizing subjective experience over objective reality.
