Witch House-Events in Utrecht

Emerging in the late 2000s and early 2010s, Witch House is an atmospheric microgenre rooted in electronic music and occult aesthetics that utilizes heavy synthesizers, layered percussion with trap-style hi-hats, and slowed-down, pitch-shifted vocals to create a sense of dread. The tempo is typically slow, characterized by a prominent "chopped and screwed" influence that emphasizes a dragging, ethereal rhythm, resulting in a mood that remains consistently dark, haunting, and melancholic. By blending harsh industrial textures with dream pop's cavernous atmospheric quality, it bridges the gap between darkwave, hip-hop, and drone. This genre often incorporates significant lo-fi distortion and Gothic elements to deliver a uniquely immersive, ritualistic sonic experience that purposefully rejects mainstream production standards.
