Bhajan-Events in Zurich

Bhajan is a traditional Indian devotional song rooted in the Bhakti movement, designed to express love and reverence for the divine through lyrical poetry. Typically performed in temples or community gatherings, the genre features a blend of acoustic instruments like the harmonium, tabla, and manjira cymbals to create a meditative atmosphere. The rhythmic structure often begins at a moderate tempo and gradually builds in intensity, reflecting the practitioner's spiritual ascent toward ecstasy. While sharing similarities with the call-and-response style of Kirtan, Bhajans remain distinct through their structured melodic frameworks and deep connection to classical Raga scales, serving as a vital cornerstone of South Asian religious and cultural musical practice.
