Flamenco-Events in Zurich

Originating from the Romani, Moorish, and Sephardic cultures of Andalusia, Spain, flamenco is a profoundly emotional art form traditionally built upon three core elements: cante (singing), toque (guitar playing), and baile (dance). The genre is characterized by complex rhythmic structures called compás, often utilizing syncopation and 12-beat cycles, accompanied by percussive footwork known as zapateado and sharp handclapping. Its mood spans a dramatic spectrum from the melancholic depth of cante jondo to the festive vibrance of cante chico, reflecting themes of struggle, pride, and passion. Flamenco maintains a distinct semantic relationship with folk traditions while its sophisticated harmonic language has influenced diverse genres ranging from jazz to contemporary pop.
