French Jazz-Events heute Abend in Zurich

French Jazz, or Jazz Français, emerged as a distinctive style in the early 20th century, blending American swing influences with indigenous European folk traditions like Musette. Central to its identity is the Gypsy Jazz movement, pioneered by Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, which utilizes acoustic guitars, violins, and double basses to create a vibrant, string-driven sound. The genre is characterized by the "la pompe" percussive rhythm technique, providing a driving accompaniment to virtuosic, improvisational melodies that range from melancholic ballads to high-tempo dance pieces. Its sophisticated and romantic mood establishes a semantic bridge between the raw energy of American Bebop and the refined harmonic sensibilities of French classical impressionism.
