Modern Jazz Piano-Events diese Woche in Zurich

Emerging from the post-bebop era and evolving through the mid-20th century, modern jazz piano represents a departure from stride and early swing toward complex harmonic structures and modal exploration. Centered primarily on the acoustic grand piano, often accompanied by double bass and drums in a classic trio format, it emphasizes technical proficiency and improvisational fluidness. The rhythm is frequently characterized by syncopated comping, irregular phrasing, and sophisticated time signatures that range from contemplative ballads to brisk, uptempo explorations. The mood oscillates between cerebral introspection and spirited virtuosity, maintaining a deep semantic link to hard bop, cool jazz, and contemporary classical music.
