Modular Synth-Events dieses Wochenende in Zurich

Modular synth music emerged in the mid-1960s through the pioneering experimental designs of Robert Moog and Donald Buchla, focusing on a workflow of interconnected voltage-controlled modules. Unlike traditional fixed-architecture instruments, this genre utilizes physical patch cables to route electronic signals between oscillators, filters, and sequencers, facilitating the creation of complex, generative electronic textures and unconventional timbres. The tempo is often fluid or entirely non-existent, resulting in a mood that ranges from hypnotic, clock-synced polyrhythms to deeply cerebral, avant-garde soundscapes. As a foundational predecessor to modern synthesis, it shares deep semantic roots with ambient, IDM, and progressive electronic music, emphasizing the intricate physical process of sound architecture over conventional melodic forms.
