Psychobilly-Events in Zurich

Psychobilly emerged in the late 1970s as a high-octane fusion of 1950s rockabilly and the aggressive energy of first-wave punk rock. The genre is characterized by a "galloping" rhythm anchored by a frantic, slapped upright bass, paired with distorted hollow-body electric guitars and driving percussion. Lyrically, it draws heavily from 1950s B-movies, horror themes, and science fiction, creating a tongue-in-cheek, rebellious atmosphere that bridges the gap between vintage Americana and underground subcultures. While closely related to rockabilly and garage rock, psychobilly is distinguished by its significantly faster tempos, grittier production, and a visual aesthetic rooted in horror-punk and pompadour-clad rebellion.
