Requiem-Events dieses Wochenende in Zurich

The Requiem is a solemn musical setting of the Roman Catholic Mass for the Dead, originating from Gregorian chant and evolving into a major choral and orchestral form during the Renaissance and Romantic eras. Characterized by its liturgical structure, it typically features a full choir, vocal soloists, and orchestral accompaniment ranging from minimalist organ to massive symphonic forces. The tempo is predominantly slow and meditative, though sections like the "Dies Irae" introduce frantic energy and dramatic intensity to reflect themes of judgment and mourning. As a monumental pillar of sacred music, the genre bridges the gap between functional liturgical practice and profound, emotive concert-hall expression.
