Shred-Events in Zurich

Shred is a virtuoso-oriented subgenre of heavy metal that emerged in the late 1970s and gained prominence through the technical innovations of guitarists like Eddie Van Halen and Yngwie Malmsteen. Characterized by extreme technical proficiency, the genre emphasizes rapid sweep picking, intricate legato passages, and complex two-handed tapping techniques performed primarily on the electric guitar. Instrumentation typically features a traditional rock setup but centers almost exclusively on the lead guitarist’s speed and precision, often blending neo-classical scales with high-gain distortion. While it maintains a high-octane energy and fast tempo, its mood varies from triumphant to intense, acting as a stylistic bridge between traditional hard rock and the more complex structures of progressive metal.
