Son Cubano-Events in Zurich

Originating in the late 19th century in Eastern Cuba, Son Cubano is a foundational genre that blends Spanish vocal styles and guitar melodies with African percussion and rhythmic structures. The instrumentation typically features the tres guitar, double bass, bongos, and claves, revolving around a persistent clave rhythmic pattern that dictates the syncopation of the entire ensemble. Characterized by its mid-tempo groove and call-and-response montuno section, the genre conveys a vibrant yet soulful mood that bridges folk traditions with urban dance styles. As the primary stylistic ancestor to modern Salsa and Latin Jazz, it represents a pivotal fusion of European and Afro-Caribbean musical elements that maintain enduring cultural significance throughout the Hispanic world.
