Sovietwave-Events in Zurich

Sovietwave is a microgenre of electronic music that emerged in the early 2010s across former Soviet republics, blending nostalgic themes with retro-futuristic sounds. The genre typically utilizes vintage analog synthesizers, drum machines, and sampled dialogue from Soviet-era educational films or space mission recordings to evoke a sense of longing for a lost socialist utopia. Characterized by moderate tempos and melodic, often melancholic synth leads, its rhythm is closely aligned with 1980s synth-pop and disco. While it shares aesthetic DNA with vaporwave and synthwave, sovietwave focuses specifically on the technological optimism and cultural memory of the Eastern Bloc, creating a unique sonic landscape of bittersweet reflection.
