It's the 6th installment in the The Mummy film series, but a standalone film.Growing up in Germany, I really didn't know anything about comedy duo Abbott and Costello, apart from the fact they existed, and this is the first of their films I've seen.The duo did multiple crossover "meet" films in the 1940s and 1950s, taking on a couple of Universal monsters, previously Frankenstein, the Invisible Man, as well as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.While it can be disputed if Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy takes place in the same continuity as the previous films, it once again features the same backstory, with a mummy rising from the dead (here called 'Klaris' instead of 'Kharis') protecting the tomb of a princess (called 'Ana' instead of 'Ananka').The humor and slapstick is mostly fine, occasionally very funny, and sometimes a bit silly. The mummy itself is barely in it and has very limited screentime, however. As usual, the sets look great, though, and this is a very well made production.So, overall, Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy is a fun and overall well-mad film, but neither fully convincing as a monster film nor as a comedy.
