I LOVE the first half of this—pure graveyard atmos Wolf Man jam before going down the “scientist tries to help but turns evil because god complex so he must revive the monster” Universal plotline. Great sets, plenty of fog, the monster trapped in ice (!!!!!), and the continuation of the lore from the previous entries are all top notch in my book, plus happy go lucky Talbot is gone (he talks about suicide for 35 minutes) and tragic Talbot is here to stay! The final meetup of the two titans is short lived but still worth the price of admission... even if it does start to fizzle out in the second act when the monster stuff gets going (the scientist going nutso and wanting to revive the monster stuff is pretty bland at this point in the series) plus Due to some story changes they decided to not make Lugosi’s Monster talk (in the last film Ygor’s brain was put into the monster and he speaks) which leads to some awkwardness since they seemed to ignore that. Regardless of that nitpick, I really do love this movie—after Bride and Son, this is easily one of the best Universal Monster sequels.lol at Dwight Fry’s intensely spoken “He said he’d blow up the dam!” line.
