I love when women. I bawled. I want to go watch it again
Tells the true story of Ramla Ali, who fled Somalia with her family as a young girl, seeking asylum in London from the civil war. As a teenager, she pursued her love of boxing, but did so secretly as she knew her family would disapprove. Ali became the first boxer, male or female, to represent Somalia at the 2020 Olympic Games and made history after winning the first ever professional female boxing match in Saudi Arabia.

I love when women. I bawled. I want to go watch it again
idk if it’s just bc of growing up in london but i often struggle with london based british indies? the dialogue/deliveries can feel jarring, oftentimes accompanied by gcse drama levels of acting, and there’s a lot of recycled cliches that tend to blur into one another, creating an impression that is dull and ubiquitous.this film isn’t entirely void of that - but it gets away with it! on a technical filmmaking level, i don’t think it’s doing anything particularly interesting, and the colour grade is a little lifeless (you can do london grey without it looking so washed out), but my emotional response was undeniable. really something to be said about managing the pacing of a story like this, and building characters you can actually empathise with, when it’s very easy for it to become a hackneyed snoozefest. i may have cried! i might have also just been super tired and vulnerable.. still, the olivia dean park scene was cute, i liked itadditional note - that ai production logo for the world we want studios was heinous
