ITSOFOMO (In the Shadow of Forward Motion) is a multimedia performance collaboration created by artist David Wojnarowicz and composer/musician Ben Neill in 1989. Integrating music, text, and video in a multi-dimensional format, the work embodies the act of acceleration and its sensory manifestations. It is through this frame that Wojnarowicz addressed the accelerating AIDS crisis and the politics of AIDS in the United States at that moment.

I first read of David Wojnarowicz's story in the book The Lonely City by Olivia Laing. A month later, I watched an excerpt of In The Shadow Of Forward Motion and the story still stays vividly. When morality is used to condemn, it is through the values of the culture that we see what exactly it is condemning. When people appear to speak for morality, it is at the forefront of their morality where the war appears to take place. And the sinners? The insane? They see what they don't. We now see what they don't. If we ever do get through this let us be, by the symbols of our times and the chattering of our teeth and the food in our mouths and the opera of our dear restless spirits, let us be moving.
“FELIX: To remind you of me. Please learn to fight again. […]FELIX: Don’t lose that anger. Just have a little more patience and forgiveness. For yourself as well.[...]NED: Why didn’t I fight harder! Why didn’t I picket the White House, all by myself if nobody would come. Or go on a hunger strike. I forgot to tell him something. Felix, when they invited me to Gay Week at Yale, they had a dance... In my old college dining hall, just across the campus from that tiny freshman room where I wanted to kill myself because I thought I was the only gay man in the world—they had a dance. Felix, there were six hundred young men and women there. Smart, exceptional young men and women. Thank you, Felix.”— larry kramer, the normal heart
