hella inspiring to watch after my first 10k
Aisha McAdams, a former competitive runner turned photographer, embarks on a journey to document the triumphs and struggles of famed ultra trailrunners, including Jim Walmsley and Eszter Csillag. Traveling to mythical races—the Western States Endurance Run in the mountains of eastern California, the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc in the French Alps—the film marvels at athletes who maintain their intensity as they run 100 miles of mountain trails while climbing thousands of vertical feet.

A window into a world I knew nothing about before. The western states race was very exciting! The UTMB timelapse shot was *chef kiss*
inspiring at times, captivating too. but lacks focus and an emotional driving force that feels concentrated. also hard to not see this as a “product” of the brand. running is tricky — it is often sadomasochistic, masturbatory even. but i can’t deny its therapeutic effects. i’ve felt them. just did not feel like this was an effective doc. docs should, in theory, educate and/or draw you closer to an experience of a collective or individual. this gets close to drawing us closer to an individual, but it doesn’t land the plane.
