there will be blood, copious amounts of blood.what a pity. all aboard the death ship, where chaos reigns, no fucks are given, and loose limbs are the only things sinking ships. heavy coats of blood splatter cover Project Wolf Hunting, a gonzo game-like survival horror that intends to bleed you dry. bones will be broken, heads will be snapped, and arteries will be drained. a maddening sense of depravity and eagerness to inflict pain onto others are ever so prominent. similar in its bloodshed of violent shocker The Sadness—with less sexualized kill scenes— Project Wolf Hunting feels like Resident Evil meets Con Air on open water. there’s simply zero time for pleasantries and sentimental character development, not too sure if that hurts a film with such anger residing inside of it but if you’re here for ultra-violent carnage that fill the claustrophobic confines of a freighter and a weak narrative then you’ll be certainly pleased. way too long but this is a whole ass beast that will attract the hell out of gore-hungry fans.Side note: jang dong-yoon mega cute boi

“A fucking animal shouldn’t pretend that it’s human.”I haven’t seen a film drop the ball this badly in a long, long time. All you had to do was have a prison breakout on a ship and add an unstoppable monster to it. That’s all you had to do, not all the other bullshit you added in the second half.Even with the film having both those aspects to it, it’s not meshed well at all. The second the zombie super soldier is unleashed everything about the prisoners taking over the ship almost completely ceases to matter. It’s like it’s two different films that temporarily cross over in the middle. They could’ve done so much with this plot. Imagine having a bunch of violent criminals forced to team up with the police for survival. Think of the tension, the arguments, the character development! But it’s done so sparsely it leaves you wondering why have this criminal plotline at all.Watching this I was randomly reminded of the French film The Horde. It did a similar plot leagues better than this. A group of vigilante cops and the gangsters they were gunning for have to rely on each other to survive a zombie apocalypse. That’s what I wanted from this film. Also none of the multitude of characters matter all that much in the end. Even those with a bit of depth or backstory don’t ultimately matter much. One character gets some love and it’s in the way of random flashbacks near the fucking climax of the film. The second half whittles down it’s cast rapidly and chooses to add a whole lot of lore for some inexplicable reason. Flashbacks, exposition, and an entire new set of special characters! I couldn’t have cared less. I did not care for any of it. It’s like they really wanted to set up a sequel but kneecapped the first film to do it.All that said! If you’re here purely for a super violent good time, this’ll do it for you. In terms of the sheer amount of bloodshed on screen I had no complaints. This boat is soaked in blood before you know it and it only gets slicker from that point on. I’m honestly shocked more characters didn’t wipe out due to the ridiculous amount of blood lining everything. They really enjoyed having fountains of blood spray out of head wounds, noses, and mouths. Lots of sick kills that way. Limbs are torn off, bullets shred flesh to bits, and someone literally bites off a guys arm. So I definitely had a good time with all of that. The super soldier doesn’t have the most memorable look to him, he’s essentially just a guy in a jumpsuit. That said, I did like the touch of having his eyes stapled shut. It looked painful and gave him a more menacing edge.Ultimately this was a disappointment. It’s not bad mind you, it looks good, the gore is plentiful, and shits always happening. But it wastes a cool plot for a completely different plot that pops out of nowhere and unnecessarily complicates things. Will I watch a sequel? Sure. I did enjoy myself and again, the gore is great. But hopefully they choose to contain the plot that time.

If PTA hadn’t already taken it, a great alternate title for this movie would have been “There Will Be Blood.” Seriously! Whatever budget they had, most of it must have gone to the blood and makeup department. I had no idea a human being could bleed that much. Zahler and Tarantino would be proud. The movie is just an exercise in pure nihilism and extreme violence. From the point our criminals, particularly a devilishly sadistic Seo In-guk, get unleashed, the film is complete carnage. There’s very little that resembles a plot, so those looking for some story even in their horror movies would find themselves feeling disappointed, and despite all the over-the-top gore, it may reach a point where you may be left feeling kind of numb. There are a lot of cardboard cutouts and individuals you really want to die in this, which might make the film a chore to sit through for certain viewers. All in all, if you don’t care about any compelling story and just want two nonstop hours of pure carnage, this might be the movie for you.TODAY SCHEDULEZigeunerweisenKagero-zaCapone Cries A LotProject Wolf Hunting
